NC STATE WOLFPACK CLUB SELECTS ARTIST, DICK IDOL, FOR 32-FOOT TALL, BRONZE STADIUM SCULPTURE

Unique Fundraiser Based on Sales of Reproductions

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 31, 2001) - The North Carolina State University (N.C.S.U.) Wolfpack Club, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships for NCSU student-athletes, unveiled the model of a spectacular bronze monument by renowned wildlife artist, Dick Idol, Friday night at Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium. Several thousand Wolfpack Club members were treated to the first look at this eternal symbol of their alma mater during the gala kick-off event for the Wolfpack “Goal Line Drive”, the active phase of the capital contribution campaign that is raising funds for an approximately $55 million dollar renovation to Carter-Finley Stadium.

Top Wolfpack officials including Chancellor Marye Anne Fox; Director of Athletics Lee Fowler and Head Football Coach Chuck Amato, addressed the crowd as part of a multi-media presentation to garner support for the project. Wolfpack Club Executive Director, Bobby Purcell was very pleased at the enthusiasm shown for the new bronze monument.

“We are well down the path of making Carter-Finley one of the top stadiums in the country,” said Purcell. “We are building a football facility that will be second to none and will allow us to continue our goal of building a national championship-caliber program at State. This world-class sculpture will serve as an everlasting N.C. State icon and touchstone for all State fans.”

Idol’s “interactive monument” has been designed to be spectacular and entertaining by incorporating the exhibition of 6’ bronze wolves (each 5-6’ tall) with a 24’ tall mountain, 8’ waterfalls, and dramatic lighting and audio effects. At two times life size (about the size of a horse) each bronze wolf will represent a unique characteristic of N.C.S.U. athletics as voiced by Coach Amato: Courage, Confidence, Passion, Pride, Spirit and Strength.

As part of the “Goal Line Drive” to help raise money for the renovation, N.C.S.U. alumni, fans and corporate supporters have an opportunity to purchase bronze reproductions of “Wolfpack Turf” and the six individual wolves for their private or corporate art collections. Each piece is restricted to a limited edition of 100 before the molds are destroyed. In addition, supporters will receive a perpetual recognition plaque in the plaza area in front of the monument at Carter-Finley and game programs. Wolfpack Club Associate Executive Director, Stephen Ponder said interest has been brisk since Friday’s unveiling. Ponder anticipates a profit of more than two million dollars from reproduction sales.

The deal was brokered by Jay Wisse of Wisse, Hollmann & Co., a Raleigh based firm that provides universities, pro teams and other organizations with fundraisers based upon new, world class Dick Idol bronze sculptures of their mascots. Wisse, Hollmann & Co. is an affiliate of Richard French & Associates, the South’s largest public relations firm.

About the Artist

Nationally acclaimed as one of the most talented sculptors, painters and creators of wildlife art today, Dick Idol is also regarded as one of America’s premier outdoorsmen. He has spent thirty years as a professional guide, naturalist, writer, editor, public speaker, conservationist, photographer, woodsman and co-founder of North American Whitetail Magazine. Idol’s strongest passion, and perhaps his greatest talent, was awakened in 1994 with the completion of his first bronze sculpture of a whitetail deer. His unparalleled body of artwork since, including more than 40 bronze editions, more bronze “Ultra” monumental sculptures than any living artist and numerous paintings and drawings, has established him as a true “American Master.”

Dick’s company, Dick Idol Ventures has taken his creative vision to a variety of other industries. Klaussner Furniture Industries, America’s largest privately held furniture manufacturer, launched its Dick Idol Home Collection, a line of outdoor inspired furniture in October at the International Home Furnishings Show in High Point, NC. The new line was hailed as one of the most successful introductions of a new furniture line in history. Look for the Dick Idol Home Collection (including a full line of home accessories) in better home furnishings, flooring, and gift stores in early 2002.
